English

One of the oldest departments in the college the Department of English offers specialization in English language and literature under the credit-based system. The syllabus under the credit system has integrated the conventional approach of exposing the student to period/genre-based texts and literature of contemporary relevance. There are 11 permanent faculty members with 6 Ph. D. holders and 5 engaged in doctoral research. The faculty members are dedicated to giving Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and PhD students the best education possible. Experts in subjects like Postcolonial Literature, American Literature, Ecocriticism and Eco-literature, English Language Teaching, Gender Studies, and Feminism, are among the faculty members. In addition, the department imparts knowledge of the four language skills—listening, speaking, reading, and writing—to the college’s Part I English students. English is taught using the Communicative English Teaching Method, which applies a variety of comprehensive approaches to vocabulary, grammar, spoken English, listening, reading, and writing in English. The application of these English language abilities in practical contexts is given top priority in our holistic teaching methods. The Department became an approved research center of Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, Kerala in 2021.
