       Infrastructure

Infrastructure and learning resources:

Laboratories.

  • The department has five well-equipped laboratories, two for the UG and three for PG classes. New equipments are added every year. Now there are two electronic balances, one computer, two OHP's, polar meters, etc. in our stock in addition to the other equipments required in a PG laboratory.
  • We also have good quality molecular and crystal models.
  • There was a good enhancement in the learning resources of the department during the last five years. The department is in tune with the advancement of information technology during this time. A majority of the faculty members use Internet facilities for downloading study materials from reputed institutions. We subscribe journals like 'Asian Journal of Chemistry', 'Resonance',' Current Content' etc. A reading room is set exclusively for the reference of journals with in the department to enable students to select projects .
  • The college library is well stocked with chemistry books . Every year new additions are made mainly with resources that we get from the college.   A part of the funds of the projects are also used to purchase books, which adds to the library stock. Now we are in a better position as we are getting the PG assistance from the UGC.
  • Often we demonstrate through the computer the study materials that are downloaded from the net to the PG students. The conduct of seminar by students is done in a regular and meticulous way. The performance by them in seminars is counted for internal assessment also. To get in touch with 'Chemistry in practice' the PG students are sent to various institutions like 'Travancore Cements', 'Rubber Research Institute of India.
  • (RRII), Research laboratory of CFSC, Changanacherry, AKAY Flavours &Aromatics     for project works. We invite experts for talks on specialized topics. (Retro synthesis by Dr.Unnikrishnan, Nano Composites by Dr.Kuruvila etc.) The National and Inter national seminars that the department organized were very beneficial to both students and faculty members.
