           Research

Research Programmes:

The department is currently running four minor projects. The project works for students are mainly intended to give them research aptitude .Two of our faculty members are actively involved in research works. The department publishes a yearly journal on research works.

The following projects are currently running, with UGC assistance.

1.

'Free Radical Chemistry of Aza Derivatives of Nucleic acid Components, Mr. G.Pramod.
2.'Kinetics of Aqueous Chromium (vi) Reduction by Zero valent Iron'Mr. G.Rajeev.
3.

'Studies on Eco-friendly Water treatment using Poly Aluminium Coagulant' Mr. K N Mohanachadran.

4.

'Investigation on Microemulsions as Metal Working Fluids' Mr.V Rajamohanan Nair.

TITLE OF RESEARCH

CHEMICAL CHARACTERIZATION AND PHYSIOLOGICAL EFFECTS OF THE PRODUCTS    GENERATED IN   AGNIHOTRA

AREA OF RESEARCH

A critical chemical analysis and the physiological effects of   the products generated during the process of   Agnihotra , which is an ancient method of fumigation, disintegrating
selected materials of prescibed combination in a given environment.

NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL RELEVANCE

The harmony of   Mother Nature has been highly disturbed due to huge industrial complexes, accumulation of radioactive wastes, deforestation, urbanisation etc resulting pollution of air and waster, depletion of ozone layer and corruption of the entire atmosphere.
An authoritative and elaborate chemical study of the age old   tradition of Agnihotra   may prove fruitful in scientific innovations in the field of medicine, preventive medicine, botanical growth inducing technology, environmental purification etc. This will be benefitial to future generations as it is secular in tenet and scientific in character.

WORK PROGRESS

Analysis of   some of   the   ingradients has been carried out using gas chromatographic methods. Collection of gases produced during the process of   Agnihotra and its analysis are
in progress.
