Retrospect:The Department started functioning way back in 1947 when NSS Hindu College began as Pre-University College.   In 1958 sanction was accorded for Degree course in English Language and Literature. Later in 1999, Post Graduate course in English was granted to the Department. The Department intends to develop into a research centre in the near future.

Profile:Our Department ,the largest in the college, has a faculty of 15 members.3 are PhD holders and1 teacher is on deputation for Ph.D. 3 other teachers are also engaged in research work. The department runs an Add-on-course 'On creative Communication and Spoken English', which is sponsored by the     UGC.The student strength at the UG level is 90 and at the PG level is 24. The department in tune with the times plans to move forward. A Research Department is one of our main goals. We wish to start a diploma course in Journalism and Multimedia. With girls forming a majority of the students we wish to begin a Women's Study centre in the College.
