POST GRADUATE DEPARTMENT OF POLITICS

Retrospect:
Department of Political Science of this college commenced in the year 1951 under Kerala University. Prof N C Nair was the first Head of the Department who later became principal. B A Degree Course started initially and in 1982 the department has been elevated to a Post Graduate Department under Prof Santha Kumary Kunjamma as HOD. The department which has completed five and half decades produced many rank holders at the university level and several eminent students who ramified in different terrains of life.

Profile:
The department is having 8 faculty members, with 5   Ph.D. holders and two are engaged in doctoral programmes. The department offers programmes at (i) Graduate, (ii) Post-Graduate levels. The teachers are contributing research papers to national and international journals.   Some of our former students have occupied very high positions in India and abroad in academic and administrative fields. Several research projects have been undertaken by the teaching faculty.   The faculty members, research scholars and P G students regularly participate in national symposia/seminars.

At present the department consists of 200 students at the graduate and 40 at the P G levels.
Sociology, one of the sister disciplines of Political Science is also functioning along with this department. Prof Seethalakshmy is in charge and this subject is taught in graduate level as a subsidiary.
