Introduction

The functioning of the UGC Cell of NSS Hindu College, Changanasserry commenced with the preparations for UGC XI plan requirements in 2006. The audited utilization certificates for Xth plan along with the requirements for the college during the XI plan period was accepted by the UGC in 2008. A detailed XI plan proposal for the development of UG & PG education for the period 2007 - 2012 were submitted to the UGC in November 2008. We were be able to present the entire proposal very satisfactiorily at the Interface meeting held at the Kerala University office on 12th June 2009 and succeeded in securing maximum allocation for our college. UGC sanctioned Rs.17.00 lakhs as UG assistance, Rs.58.00 lakhs as PG assistance for 11 departments and Rs.65.50 lakhs for different merged schemes. A one time grant of Rs.10 lakhs for the upgradation of PG Science labs was also allotted. The UGC cell functions with Dr.K.Radhakrishnan as General Co-ordinator and Dr.P.S.Gopakumar, Dr.K.N.Viswanathan Nair, Dr.C.Jayachandran , Sri T.N.Chandrasekharan Nair (Administrative Assistant) and Sri G.Gopakumar(Section Clerk) as members.

Utilization

Utilization of sanctioned schemes were formulated as per the guidelines given by Secretary, NSS Colleges Central Committee. Department level co-ordinators and conveners for various courses were constituted. A building committee with the representatives from MG University, Changanasserry Municipality and from Management was also constituted. The formal inauguration of the launching of various schemes under UGC XI plan was done by Prof.R.Prasannakumar (Secretary, NSSCCC) on 11.03.2010 . Remedial coaching classes were conducted by Malayalam, Hindi, Physics Chemistry, and Commerce Departments. 116 students registered for coaching for Entry in Services. 20 students (11 from Arts, 7 from Science and 2 from Commerce) from I DC & I PG classes were selected for the stipend (Rs.500/- pm) scheme based on the recommendation from respective departments.  · An estimate for Rs.24,84,000/- for various repairs and maintenance works were approved by NSS executive council , pending approval by UGC.  · An amount of Rs.8,25,344 has been utilized for the purchase of Books & Journals and Equipments under UG assistance.  · Based on the approval of Purchase Committee, following equipments were purchased under RCC & Entry in Services schemes : a) Resograph (1 no) b) LCD with ceiling mount (installed in Seminar Hall) c) PC (branded) with original software (7 nos) d) Laptop (1 no) e) Laser printer (1 no) The UGC Cell would like to thank the entire faculty , both teaching and non-teaching for their whole-hearted support in the implementation of various UGC schemes in the college.
