| The Nair Service Society, with a chain of educational institutions through out Kerala, has been in the vanguard of educational activity for the past nine decades. The society has a very clear vision in this respect. Its motto is to show the path of light to the ordinary man in his search for knowledge and development. The NSS which took roots in the mind of the legendary Sri Mannath Padmanabhan realized the necessity of uplifting the Nair youth, at a time when the Nairs were struggling to hold their own against strong societal fluctuations. The answer was in the form of an educational upsurge which was to make the youth prepared for a struggle for existence. Sri Mannam blazed the trail which left many dumbfounded but marked the triumphant march of the NSS in the educational field. He travelled the length and breadth of the state in his untiring efforts of setting up schools and colleges, which galvanized the nairs and helped them in their entry into the middle class society. At a time when higher education was at a premium the NSS was bold enough to venture into this arena, which later prompted other sections also to join the fray. The NSS was indeed a trend setter which ushered in an unprecedented educational development. The NSS with more than 100 schools, to its name plays a major role in the betterment of the education sector and caters to the needs of thousands in fulfilling their educational ambitions. The colleges and training colleges set up by the NSS speak volumes in their contribution to the higher education sector. These educational institutions of the NSS are strong pillars in creating young men and women who can inspire the coming generation.
