Dr.Unnikrishnan presents paper in Chapman Conference at Hyderabad

Dr.K.Unnikrishnanan,Dept.of Physics, presented his contributary paper titled -A study on Chaotic Behaviour of Equatorial/low latitude Ionosphere over Indian
Subcontinent, using GPS-TEC Time Series
- in the Chapman Conference on Complexity and Extreme Events in Geosciences organized by American Geophysical Union held at National Geophysical Research Institute (CSIR),Hyderabad,from15-19 Feb2010.

American Geophysical Union (AGU) fosters excellent research in Earth and Space science,to the benefit of humanity. The topics for the conference include the studies of Earth and geospace systems and their role in the development and evolution of extreme events. These will naturally have important practical implications for natural hazard predictions and risk management, based on the theories of nonlinear dynamics and complexity.

Eminent scientists from a wide range of disciplines related with extreme events and from many countries participated and presented their research papers. Some of the participants are listed below: Prof. Daniel Baker, (AGU/NSF/NASA delegate) University of Colorado, Boulder, USA;   ï¿½ï¿½Prof. A. Surjalal Sharma, University of Maryland, College Park, Maryland;   ï¿½ï¿½Prof. Armin Bunde, Institute of Theoretical Physics, University of Giessen, Giessen, Germany; Dr. N. Watkins, British Antarctic Survey, Cambridge, UK; Prof. Yosihiko Ogata, The Institute of Statistical Mathematics, Tokyo, Japan; Dr. Vijay P. Dimri, National Geophysical Research Institute (CSIR), Hyderabad, India; Prof. P. Sridharan, Space Physics Laboratory, VSSC, Trivandrum; Dr. Ian Main, University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, UK;  ï¿½ï¿½ Dr. Daniel Schertzer, École Nationale des Ponts et Chausses, France;   ï¿½ï¿½Dr. Lev Zelenyi, Institute for Space Research, Moscow, Russia; Prof. Michael Ghil, University of California, Los Angeles, USA, Prof. G.S. Lakhina, Indian Institute of Geomagnetism, Mumbai, India, Dr. Haerter , Max Plank Institute for Meteorology, Germany; and many others….

ï¿½ï¿½Along with this, panel discussions were conducted on international collaboration in the studies of extreme events, mainly from the perspective of the conference theme.

Conveners of this conference are:  ï¿½ï¿½ Prof. A. Surjalal Sharma, University of Maryland, College Park, Maryland; Dr. Vijay P. Dimri, Director, National Geophysical Research Institute (CSIR), Hyderabad, India;   ï¿½ï¿½  ï¿½ï¿½and Prof. Armin Bunde, Institute of Theoretical Physics, University of Giessen, Giessen, Germany.
